Pit Stop: Star Alliance and Swiss Lounges in Zurich

Abram and I have both agreed that "lounge hopping" at international airports should be an Olympic sport. Then we would definitely have a few gold metals to our name! At Zurich International Airport, we split our short time between the SWISS International Air Lines lounge and the Star Alliance lounge at the other end of the airport. The former was impressive for its size and design, the latter stood out for its peacefulness. The SWISS lounge's claim to fame is the longest bar in an airport anywhere in the world (pictured above). There were a few stations with internet access, but none of them were functional, save one, and there was a queue of laptop-toting consultants hovering. Neither lounge had much to offer in terms of food: during breakfast time, the SWISS lounge offered small croissants (but don't expect to find butter, jam or honey!), assorted fruits, Toblerone bars, and drinks of all sorts. The Star Alliance lounge, designed with an Asian/Feng Shui theme, offered a meager selection of pretzel sticks and yoghurt. To add insult to injury, it was a far walk from the gate in a near-deserted area of the airport. This would explain why it was so quiet. More photos available on Flickr.

great photos! i agree that swiss lounges always have great design/aesthetic, but seem to lack in the food department. i would say the same about their flights. the last medium-longhaul flight i had with them (to north africa) we were served some indescribable white pasty goo. i think it was there attempt at pasta.
