Where to Stay: Four Seasons Istanbul

On our last night in Istanbul, Abram and I switched to the Four Seasons Istanbul, built in what was formerly the Sultanahmet jail. After a $40 million renovation, the hotel was filled with rich-looking people and more staff-than-guests. Needless to say, we got a steal of a deal that landed us here. The Four Seasons is the swankiest place to stay in the Old City, with views of the Sea of Marmara and the majestic dome of the Hagia Sofia. Like the rest of Istanbul, there is a sense of east-meets-west here, a confluence of cosmopolitan social circles and the nostalgia of the area's ancient grandeur. We were treated with privilege and began to feel it -- our marble-covered bathroom was larger than my bedroom at home and the warm embrace of the beds made it difficult to get up in the morning. A few years ago, CN Traveler named this hotel one of the top in the world. We now know why! Tevkifhane Sokak No. 1, Sultanahmet-Eminönü district in İstanbul. Phone: +90 212.638.82.00.

Hands down one of the best luxury hotels my wife and I have frequented. I appreciated the photos. We always seem to forget to take shots when we're there ourselves. The only downfall to the property is the lack of a pool! The Cirigan Palace has a pool and was a beautiful luxury hotel.
