Restaurant: Cabana East

If you've read about the Puerto Rico trip I took a year ago, you would know it was not my favourite travel experience. The food, however, was light with subtle fruitiness and delicate textures. So when my friend Alex and Joanie suggested we head to Cabana's, a "nuevo latina" Puerto Rican restaurant on the Upper East Side, I didn't hesitate. We downed some mojito's at the bar while we waited for a table. The restaurant was already quite full at 6:30PM. After being seated, our group ate its way through crackly coconut shrimp appetizers. Cabana Restaurant on UrbanspoonMy entree was some kind of fruity chicken curry doused in rice, or is it the other way around? The food was good for Latin food, but generally lacked the ka-pow I was expecting. Mojito fantastic, appetizer good, entree satisfactory. I skipped dessert for fear of what I might find. Cabana, 1022 Third Ave. (between 60th and 61st Street).
