Restaurant: Mooncake Foods

As a temporary yet full-time New York resident, I have a goal to eat my way through the best -- and cheapest -- the city has to offer. Many New York foodies will tell you that you might find cheap but not good or good but not cheap, so how rare it is to find cheap and good. Mooncake Foods in SoHo is such a place. When I say it's an eclectic restaurant, I'm not being poetic: retro diner furniture, pan-asian flavours, and thoughtful presentation. The menu is a savory list of dishes.
The tuna burger with wasabi mayo is a popular choice, the waitress tells me, but she ultimately steers me to the pork chops glazed with sweetness and served over aromatic rice. My neighbor shovels down his miso-glazed salmon while I devour the pork chops. The damage? Less than $9 each. I'll definitely be back. 28 Watts Street (between Thompson St. and 6th Ave.).

What a great find! My husband and I visited Mooncake on your recommendation the other day. Very impressed, and didn't break the wallet either. Thanks!
