Restaurant: Cafe Cups

cafecups.jpg

One would not expect such a fine dining experience from a place so eclectic on the outside. However, Café Cups was the bright spot in an otherwise dull trip to Homer.

Painted in bright pink, the little cafe was bejeweled with glass mosaics and large cups reminiscent of the “Alice in Wonderland” teacups at Disneyland. The inside was decorated much the same but perhaps with a more intentional placement of the artwork. Bright colors welcomed us as did a cheerful waitress still trying to learn that particular evening’s menu.

The goal was good seafood, which John accomplished by ordering the special rockfish and scallop skewers. I had every intention of doing the same until she described the 12oz bacon wrapped filet smothered in a Gorgonzola Cream sauce. Our dishes arrived and if looks were any indication of taste, we knew we were in for a treat. John’s halibut skewer radiated flavor with each bite while my filet was almost fork tender. Each bite seemed to bring new character to the dish and was complimented by the relaxed atmosphere. We were forced to pass on dessert, but my peppermint mocha seemed to be the perfect conclusion to our delightful dinner.
