Restaurant: Thaiphoon

Most places I've been, Thai restaurants are typically hit or miss. Either superb cooking or disasters of Asian mystery (e.g. "Chicken with brown sauce" -- what the heck is brown sauce?!). Thaiphoon didn't disappoint at all, and I would recommend it next time you are in DC's Dupont Circle area. The decor is catchy and comfortable with a window-encased dining room and private booths at the rear painted in spicy colours.
It reminded me somewhat of a Parisian restaurant in the sense that no matter where you sit, you get to watch someone interesting walking by. I feasted on the green curry chicken, a vigorous dish, save some undercooked Asian eggplant floating around in the sauce. Their wine list was not extensive, but the waitress-recommended Pinot Grigio was a decent pairing.
Thaiphoon - 2011 S St., NW; 202-667-3505. Open daily for lunch and dinner; open Friday and Saturday for dinner until 11.
